Abstract
Description
A Starr-Edwards valve. At the very top of the valve is a small cylindrical shaped handle that is beige in color. Attached to it is a white plastic circular piece with four light-blue plastic strips coming through it like in the shape of a cross or a "t". Attached to this white piece is a silver metal ball, and this ball has those same light-blue plastic strips around it. The ball is surrounded by three cloth covered rings (like in a birdcage) that come down to join to a hard circular piece that is also covered in white cloth. The silver metal ball does not touch the circular piece at the bottom. The diameter of this circular piece is approximately 1 inch. The height of the valve is approximately 2 inches. A strip of plastic with a serial or model no. typed into it is tied to one of the cloth covered rings surrounding the ball with green thread. This no. is: 14A J 541. The valve is inside of a cylindrical plastic jar that is clear and colorless. According to the label, the size is "14A.31 mm", the model no. is "2320", and the serial no. is "J 541". The valve was made in Edwards Laboratories in Santa Ana, California. NOTE: According to the exhibit card, the Starr-Edwards Valve is circa 1965-1968. Dimensions are: 2" H x 1.75: Diameter; weight: 1.9 oz.
