Abstract

Description

A cloth book of single aortic valve prosthetic leaflets. On the cover, "Aortic Valve Leaflets" is written in black ink on a long strip of scotch tape. On the inside, there are eight aortic valve leaflets of various sizes. There are two rows with four leaflets in each row. Each leaflet is shaped like a half-moon or a semi-circle and is made of white cloth. Each leaflet has a semi-circle piece of metal (lined with tape) inserted into it, presumably is to keep the shape of the leaflet. NOTE: According to the exhibit card, these single aortic valve prosthetic leaflets are circa 1958-1960. They were designed by Dr. Bahnson at John Hopkins and were used at the Medical College of Georgia. Dimensions are: 10.5" H x 7.5" W x " L; weight: 3.8 oz.
