Abstract

Description

A collection of Hufnagel valve holders and collar holders. Inscribed into the sides are "HUFNAGLE VALVE HOLDER" and "ETMH OR" on two of the instruments; "HUFNAGLE COLLAR HOLDER" and "ETMH OR" on the other two instruments. ("HUFNAGLE" should be spelled "HUFNAGEL".) On the back is stamped "Stainless U.S.A." and "Codman & Shurtleff". According to the exhibit card, these Hufnagel valve holders and collar holders were made and used in the early 1950s. The instruments were used to attach and fixate Hufnagel aortic prosthesis using the multiple point fixation technique. Dimensions range from 6.5" to 9.25: in length; the weight of the valve holders is 2.1 oz; the weight of the collar holders is 1.4 oz.
