Abstract

Michelangelo's fresco figures have always fascinated me. I envied his ability to make such graceful, powerful, and enigmatic forms. I meticulously examined his works looking for signs revealing how he fashioned such forms, so that I too may be able to render such awe-inspiring figures. I saw myself as Michelangelo's protege and he as my mentor. His plaster walls educated me and inspired me. I was determined to capture that dynamism and vitality in my own artwork. Because of my research on Michelangelo, I have discovered that the technique of the serpentine line was the source of his figures' vitality and dynamism. As a result of applying this artistic device to my own art, I think 1 have come closer to capturing the dynamism and vitality so omnipresent in Michelangelo's work.
