Description
This was the third volume of the Southern Medical and Surgical Journal and the volume year was from October 1838 to September 1839. This was the last volume edited by Dr. Milton Antony who died in September 1839 of yellow fever while treating victims of the yellow fever epidemic that overwhelmed Augusta that year. Publication of the SMSJ ceased until 1845.
This volume contains the introductory addresses given to the students at the beginning of the term by Dr. Paul F. Eve in 1837 and by Dr. Joseph A. Eve in 1838. Dr. Antony’s essay of the maternal influence on the fetus and mortality statistics for Charleston, SC and Augusta, GA are included.
