Abstract
Description
The Sanborn Viso-Cardiette This EKG machine was an example of an early "direct" recorder and was of the late 50s vintage. The term "direct" implies that no intermediate photographic processing was required. The tracing was immediately available for inspection. The machine used tube technology in the amplifiers and was line operated. This machine was designated as having belonged to the "Respiratory Center" a unit devoted to the care of poliomyelitis patients, a significant number of whom had respiratory muscle involvement. The machine could be taken to the beside of the patient many of whom were in "iron lungs." (Instrument and description was furnished by Dr. Geoffrey King of Biomedical Engineering.) Dimensions are: 11.5" H x 8.5" W x 15" L; weight: 37 lbs.
